About Shirley – Accredited Practising Dietitian | 20+ Years Helping People Live Healthier Lives
About Me

Hello, I’m Shirley Chan, an Accredited Practising Dietitian with over 20 years of clinical experience in Australia and Singapore. I hold a Bachelor of Science (major in Chemistry) and a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Sydney. I started my dietetics career at Singapore General Hospital. Upon returning to Australia, I worked at Fairfield Hospital briefly before I joint Liverpool Hospital, where I later specialised in renal nutrition as the Senior Renal Dietitian.

I established my private dietitian practice in 2014, providing personalised nutrition therapy for people managing complex health conditions. My core expertise lies in renal nutrition. As Type 2 diabetes is a common cause of kidney problem, I also assist individuals needing nutrition care suitable for diabetes and kidney condition.

Clinical Focus Areas
During my 20 years in clinical practice, I’ve supported clients across different hospital wards, outpatient clinics, rehab teams, and in-home settings—developing an adaptable, client-focused approach to nutritional care. Renal nutrition remains my area of focus.

My Approach
I believe effective nutrition advice should be realistic, achievable, and rooted in your unique circumstances. I take time to understand your health background, culture, lifestyle, and food preferences—ensuring care that’s both clinically sound and personally meaningful.

I speak fluent Cantonese and Mandarin. I warmly welcome clients from culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

Commitment to Excellence
I continually invest in professional development to stay aligned with current research and clinical standards. My additional qualifications include:
-
Monash University Low FODMAP Diet training
-
Health Coaching (Health Change Australia)
-
Eating Disorder Essentials (Inside Out Institute)
-
Diploma of Business – Frontline Management
-
Food Safety Supervision Certification
I am a published co-author in the Australian Diabetes Educators Association journal, focusing on chronic kidney disease and Type 2 diabetes management.
Nutrition with Heart
Away from the clinic, I enjoy time with my family between Sydney and Copacabana on the Central Coast. I’m a passionate home cook, cookbook collector, and firm believer that food should nourish both body and soul.
You may have seen me featured on media outlets such as SBS, TVB Australia, and various radio and print platforms—sharing practical nutrition insights with broader audiences.

In my spare time, I love collecting and propagating succulents, going bush and beach walks around Copacabana and I enjoy a variety of crafts like Kintsugi, Temari ball making and crocheting various projects.
